A quick guide to fence permits and HOA rules in Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas.
The short answer
In most Shreveport and Bossier City residential neighborhoods you do NOT need a city permit for a residential fence under 6 ft. Fences over 6 ft, front-yard fences, or commercial installs may require one.
When you DO need something
Above 6 ft tall (usually need a variance), front-yard fences (height restrictions apply, usually 4 ft), commercial or industrial lots, and any lot in a historic district. Rural parishes have their own rules.
HOA approval
If your neighborhood has a homeowners’ association — which most newer subdivisions do — you almost always need HOA approval before installing. We provide a scaled layout, material specs, and elevation drawings for HOA submission at no extra charge.
How we help
We’ve navigated permits and HOAs across the ArkLaTex for years. Tell us your neighborhood at estimate time and we’ll tell you exactly what paperwork you need and prep it with you.
